Ok folks - it's ON! Halloween FlashDance: Year 5! I can't wait to see you in your Halloween costumes!

And if you don't have a costume. Well, make one. Sheet-with-eye-holes is better than being a barnacle with no costume :-)

BASICS:

WHERE: Secret! We keep it a loosely guarded secret so we don't get shut down. The location will be the same place we've done it the last few years! If you don't know where the pier is, send me an email, ask nicely, and tell me what you're going to dress up as & I'll send you the location. I'll also send it out via Twitter on Thursday! (PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE TWITTER FEED) If you are a law enforcement official, please read my note at the end before requesting the location.

WHEN: THUSDAY, OCT. 31th at 8:00 PM

HOW:

  1. WEAR A COSTUME! Just being in costume will make it more of a fun thing and less of a gawker thing... Barnacles are no fun!
  2. BE POSITIVE AND NICE TO EVERYONE, including the people who aren't being positive, nice or in costume :-)
  3. LEAVE NO TRACE! Clean up any trash you see while you are there and especially when you leave!
  4. IT'S NOT ABOUT DRINKING: Sure, have a drink if you want! But make sure drinking isn't the focus of the night. Too many great SF events have had problems when "drunk" comes before "FUN" - we like FUN & hope you do to!
  5. GET UPDATES ON YOUR PHONE: Send the SMS/txt "follow deepfunstuff" to 40404 from your phone, to get updates on your phone the night of. See details below in the SMS section.

MISSION:

A lot of us are heartbroken that Halloween in the Castro was killed off. Sure, there were things that sucked about it (too many drunk idiots, too many gawkers/barnacles and not as many awesome costumes, and yes too much violence), but the way to deal with these problems was to fix them and work to improve the situation, NOT KILL IT. Halloween in the Castro was inspiring, hysterical, brilliant and essential too. For years and years it was one of the highlights of being a San Franciscan....

So what to do? Let's TAKE IT BACK AND FIX IT AT THE SAME TIME!!!!

TAKE IT BACK: Let's make a NEW San Francisco Halloween scene!
FIX IT: Let's make it better - promote a FUN, ZANY, COSTUMED vibe without the violently-drunken idiots. Also, let's not trash this beautiful city that we love - let's leave it at LEAST as clean as we found it!

Hey look, we're not trying to outsmart you (you'll find us if you want to, we know that), we're not trying to make your lives difficult (being a cop is plenty tough), and we know you're not anti-fun (you're just doing your jobs as you're told,) I hope you bear all that in mind, and allow us our simple fun on Halloween. GIVE ME MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: For the last few FDs, I've asked people to give me their requests and I'd try to work some in. It has worked SUPER WELL. So lets keep doing it. Give me more suggestions! I'm looking for things that I don't already play that GET A LOT OF PEOPLE HAPPY AND DANCING - email me your ideas, links from the iTunes store, places I can download etc. NOTE: These need to be high quality song fiiles (so no 128Kbps MP3s - 160 at least! 192 preferred!. FYI: most of my stuff is not MP3 but rather 128Kbps AAC.) JUST REMEMBER: WE ARE LOOKING FOR MUSIC THAT A LOT OF FOLKS WILL LIKE! AND ALSO REMEMBER, I WON'T GUARANTEE TO PLAY IT.

That way whatever happens you'll get a message on your phone. This has been a life saver already when we had to move FD on short notice - like when the po-po shuts us down!

The only free way I've found to do this is Twitter*. But you don't have to be "on Twitter" per se to get the advantages of FlashDance SMS Notification! All you have to do is below:

FOLLOW THESE 2 STEPS TO GET NOTIFICATIONS:

That's it! Now you should get SMSs from me for FlashDances. If you ever want to stop getting them on your phone, just send "off deepfunstuff". That's it!
